We at Beaumont Square want to create a place for everyone to access to the very best in independent products from all over the country in one place.
We love shouting loud and proud about small businesses local to us! So as an adopted Yorkshire lass, here’s a list of my favourite places to shop local in God’s Own Country!
Every one of these places I’ve browsed, shopped and fallen in love with – no BS.
Bird’s Yard Sheffield
I’ve been shopping here for a few years and this beauteous independent shop features a whole host of Sheffield’s top makers. Bird’s Yard is tucked inside Chapel Walk and is the perfect place to find something unique.
2 minute walk from Sheffield Theatres, Bird’s Yard is a winner in my eyes for carefully curating the best in independent products.
While I'm on the subject of Sheffield, If you see Sheffield Honey lurking about on South Yorkshire shelves - grab a pot. It's the bee's knees (sorry).
Grand Arcade Leeds
Right next to the Leeds Grand Theatre (sensing a pattern here?), Grand Arcade Leeds is the home of independents. This grade II listed Victorian shopping arcade is the place to be for quirky boutiques and home to my personal favourite, the Traditional Shaving Company.
While you’re there, check out vegi/vegan café Fruits and Roots – it’s a proper find, try the nachos!
The Fruit Market Hull
The Fruit Market is right on Hull’s gorgeous marina and over last few years has become a buzzing urban hive of activity to live, work and play.
With art galleries, live music, theatre as well as independent shops, the Fruit Market is regeneration success story, attracting £80m worth of investment over the next few years – discover this hidden Yorkshire gem, before the masses do!
Waterdale Shopping Centre Doncaster
I know what you’re thinking. But TRUST ME, the Waterdale centre is the best place to find Doncaster’s passionate independent businesses and the whole Waterdale area is on the up! Little Zebra has the most adorable range of baby clothes and ReWind is a great find for vintage and modern collectables.
If you’re on board with the vinyl renaissance, head over to The Notorious Aardvark Record Shop, and relax with a coffee while you listen to the sweet crackle because as they would say… life has surface noise.
Blake Street York
Now I could list lots of places in York to get your independent shopping kicks but in the end I had to go for my favourite piece of York luxury. Every Christmas we always end up here to do our shopping. York Cocoa House Chocolate Emporium is so much fun (and seriously indulgent) and slightly down the road is the iconic Burgins Perfumery
Topping the list however is a great example of a local company really understanding their customers with the Yorkshire Soap Company’s Imaginarium and totally embraces the Beaumont Square values of style, curiosity and lovingly-curated products.
If you know a great independent small business we should know about, let us know!
